Paleo Resources to Get You Started and Help You Stay on Track

With the New Year right around the corner I wanted to offer you some resources to help you in your Paleo journey should you decided to walk the path. These are all things that I use multiple times a day and refer to without hesitation. When recommending a paid product, please note that I do use affiliate or amazon links as deemed necessary.

A Very Happy Paleo Thanksgiving

Dinner is Served Pay no attention to the non-Paleo cranberry jelly; it’s my one indulgence and it’s organic! :)

The aroma of bone broth fills the air and makes me want to make it out of every bone imagined. It’s so simple. My daughter, sister, and niece are asleep and my husband is playing Call of Duty: MW3. I opted not to split-screen with him, choosing rather to surf the net compiling lists of things I want to make with our first batch of bone broth.

We are both rather happy. Satisfied, but not overwhelmed by a turkey induced coma. We’ve spoken in great detail tonight about our new lifestyle. We have never regretted our decision to change our lives and live a primal existence. And while we have not given up all of the comforts of modern day living, we have definitely taken steps in the right direction.

Admittedly, I was a little worried about our Paleo Thanksgiving menu. As carboholics-on-the-wagon, most of our comfort foods relied heavily on breads, pastas, cakes, and pies. The meshing of my Black American Southern heritage and his Italian ancestry is not very Paleo-friendly, but we were both determined to see this through.

I’m glad we did!

Our first Paleo Thanksgiving was a success. We tried new versions of old favorites and by the end of the meal we were both in a state of euphoria.

What was on the menu?

How Paleo has Changed Our Lives

Huevos Rancheros with Avocado and Homemade Salsa Verde

We were hesitant to tell anyone in our real lives that we are now living Paleo because it’s easy to write this off as a fad diet. It’s easy to assume that this is a temporary fix to a long term problem, but the fact is that it works. The science behind it works [check out Robb Wolf’s wonderful FAQ section on his site with enough links to research that will open your eyes] because it’s a simple process of removing harmful chemicals and foods from our diets and eating food the way Mother Nature intended it to be eaten. And it’s not just about food. It’s a lifestyle that extends beyond just eating.

So how do I know it works? It’s simple: I feel better. And it’s only been TWO months. That’s the most important thing.

Roasted Veggies

Specifically how has life changed for us?

  • We all enjoy a healthy, homecooked breakfast of good proteins and veggies. Our protein packed breakfasts provide everything we need to make it through until lunch and we are satisfied until then. Unless we are crazily active, we can forgo snacks. Meals of filling and satisfying.
  • No more sugar comas from the heavy carbs. We no longer rely on starches to fill us up and have turned that trust to protein (something that my diet was seriously lacking before).
  • We have eaten food in ways we would never have done so before– over easy eggs, left-over beef stew for breakfast etc. I’ve become a fan of left overs. Lunch is usually leftovers from the night before (if I don’t eat them for breakfast) paired with a lof of leafy greens and other veggies.
  • Everything is fresh!
  • We have eaten more lean meats, poultry, and fish than ever before and we all feel great after eating– no more “oh crap, I ate too much” feeling. We are full but don’t eat nearly as much as we used to.
  • We feel energetic after eating and are no longer exhausted from meals.
  • We drink water and enjoy coffee without all the fixins
  • The local pizza place is closing. Just kidding, but I worried that would happen once we stopped ordering from them. We don’t eat take out any more except for once or twice when things got away from me.

  • My daughter ate 3 servings of Brussel Sprouts the other day and chose fruit over Halloween Candy.
  • We are all regular now and my heart burn has disappeared.
  • My daughter’s constant bloating is gone and she has lost the extra weight.
  • I have been off my asthma meds since the second week.
  • We sleep. We sleep and we feel rested which makes us more productive and gives us clarity.
  • We cook and plan meals as a family! More family time is a plus!
  • We are more active as a family! Because we are well-rested and energized.
